Question & Answer
Staywell 7
Q...I'm trying to find a replacement cat flap for a Staywell 7 cat flap, with an existing cut-out size of 168w x 188h. Staywell seemed to have changed the size since the cat flap we have was made. The cat flap is to fit into a wood door. What can you suggest as a replacement? Many thanks
A... The Staywell 300 - 4 way locking cat flap will fit it the current hole in your door being 168mm x 188mm or you can upgrade to a 400 or 500 cat door. The 300 400 and 500 series are all the same size. The Staywell 300400 and 500 has a cut out size of 169mm x 175mm but its overall size is 241mm x 252mm. and comes with a self lining tunnel.
Staywell 22
Q... I have an old Staywell cat flap 22 which is magnetic. Our cat is now elderly and the heavy magnet on her collar is causing the collar to rub on her neck and cause irritation. Is it possible to obtain a replacement, lighter magnet? If not, do you have a replacement cat flap which would fit the existing hole and provide a lightweight magnet/detector? Many thanks.
A... The Staywell 22 was replaced by the 932 so you can use the magnets which come with this cat flap, they are smaller, but they do work in the same way.
Staywell 30
Q...I have a simple question. I have a very old Staywell Cat-flap. It's magnetic, (magnetic key around cat collar) and it's called Staywell 30. I need to replace it. What is the latest equivalent model? And will it be the same size to fit over the same door hole?
A... The cut-out size for the Staywell 30 is 169mm x 175mm, the following cat flap will fit, the Staywell 500 infra-red is suitable for both thin panel doors and doors up to 2 inches thick and its the most up to date Staywell car flap..
Q...I bought a Staywell flap for cats about a year ago. It cost me approx 30 pounds. The key is magnetic and looks like a little sort of mouse. i now have a 2nd cat and need a spare key - which one should I buy?
A... The cat collar keys you need are ref 980 these keys are compatible with the Staywell 32, 932 and the Staywell 400
Staywell 500
Q...I have a cat and a dog is it possible to buy an infra red door for both cats and dogs.
Q... I require a white small dog flap, but I am yet to find one which has a tunnel. As the panel of the door has to be cut and is metal it can be quite sharp. Is there any dog flap which has a tunnel already fitted or one which the I can attach. I would prefer it to be four way locking but a two way will do if a four way is unavailable. Can you help, and give me the product codes of the items I need to order.
A... The following pet doors for small dogs/ large cats have a tunnel liner with them, and are suitable to be fitted into metal, upvc or wood doors.4 way locking model Dogmate 221 which will fit a door up to 2inches thick and is self lining. The Staywell 600 is also self lining up to 2 inches but isn't 4 way locking, it has a flexible flap and a metal barrier which can be closed to prevent exit or entry
Cat Flaps Flaps For Double Glazing
Q...I have had a quick look through your website (catflaps.co.uk) and the cat flaps on it for glass seem to be for single glass only are there any for double glazed windows?
Q...I am building my own house in Cyprus and I have brought two cats from UK over here. My question to you is that I will have an aluminium normal size door which I would like to put one of your Staywell cat flaps doors on. Which type of your cat flaps should I buy? Or I am allowed to use on that kind of door?
A... Almost every pet door will fit into an aluminium door how ever to make life easy you should make a small hole in the door where the pet door is to be installed to check to see how thick the panel is. If the door is 20mm thick or bigger you should only use a pet door with a liner or tunnel If you have a single ply 4mm panel the single pane glass fitting doors will be more suitable. You will need suitable tools to cut the aluminium door panel and please be careful not to cut your fingers on the cut edges. Once the pet door is installed these cut edges should be not be visible.
Pet Doors Into UPVC Doors
Q...Hello I have had a new UPVC back door fitted with a UPVC bottom panel, can you tell me which pet doors are suitable please.
A... The best doors to use with UPVC doors are the ones which come with a tunnel liner that can cope with a door up to 28mm wide. Suitable doors include The Staywell 917, 932 ,300, 400, 500 electronic and 500 infra red Cat Mate do the 210 or the 255 . If your door panel has a decorative moulding you may have to replace the whole panel with a flat upvc panel - Click Here for the panels page
Pet doors into brick walls
Q... We need a replacement cat flap and want to fit it to a 4” (single course) wall, can you advise what model/s would accommodate such an application please?
A... Go for the Staywell300 4way locking, 400 magnetic 500 electronic or 500 infra red series you will need to order 2 extra tunnels and a tube of glue to extend it through the wall.

Pet Mate FAQs
CAT MATE & DOG MATE
Frequently Asked Pet Door Questions:
Q...Are Pet Mate Pet Doors easy for pets to use, will the animal soon get used to it?
A...Most animals will take to it immediately; a few more timid creatures will need a little encouragement with tasty titbits. As soon as the pet realises the freedom and independence benefits that the flap has to offer, there will be no more problems!
Q...What types of door or wall can I fit a pet door into?
A...There are Pet Mate pet doors available to fit almost any material including glass.
Q...Are Pet Mate Pet Doors easy to fit?
A...We offer simple instructions with diagrams and supply a cut-out template to make installation relatively easy. The helpline is always available if more advice is needed.
Q...What are 2-way locking and 4-way locking pet doors?
A...A 2-way lock allows the user to set the flap in two different positions – either “Locked” or “Unlocked”. A 4-way lock gives more control of your pets' movements as it also allows the user to set the flap to “In Only” and “Out Only” – which are very useful if you want to keep your pet outside or lock him in at night.
A...Yes, we offer a lifetime parts service. Please call our helpline on (01932) 700 001, click on the “contact us” button to e-mail us, or go to the customer service part of our web site for advice.
Q...Does the magnet feel heavy to the cat?
A...No, the magnet is designed specifically for cats of all temperaments, breeds, and sizes and is smaller than many of our competitors’ magnets.
Q...Does the Pet Mate Electromagnetic Door keep out all other pets?
A...The Electromagnetic Cat Flap keeps out stray cats, which by definition would not be wearing a collar or magnet. Any magnetic cat flap has the potential to admit a pet wearing a magnet.
Q...Will my Pet Mate Electromagnetic Door work if my dog wears a cat collar magnet?
A...Most small dogs have a longer nose than cats. For this reason, the dog collar magnet is more powerful than the cat collar magnet although different breeds will obviously have different nose to collar distances.
For best results, we recommend that all dogs use dog collar magnets, and cats use cat collar magnets.
